On December 07th, EBPP, in collaboration with Kisara Bali (Kita Sayang Remaja), held an awareness session on the theme "sexual education”, focused on the serious risks of child marriage and unwanted pregnancies, which was attended by 68 students.
The KISARA team explained that early marriage has severe consequences, as young girls' bodies are not physically or emotionally mature enough for pregnancy and childbirth. This can lead to complications such as preeclampsia, excessive bleeding, and premature births, all of which can endanger both the mother and child. Additionally, young girls are at a higher risk of serious injuries, such as obstetric fistulas during childbirth.
The session also highlighted that early marriage can cause significant emotional stress, such as anxiety, depression, and the loss of adolescence, which can negatively impact overall health. The students were then encouraged to ask questions, about how to raise awareness in their communities about these issues.
The KISARA team emphasized the importance of providing sex education and reproductive health knowledge from an early age. They encouraged students to spread information through counselling, campaigns, and peer education to help others understand the risks of child marriage and unwanted pregnancies.
By understanding the risks of child marriage and unwanted pregnancies, students are expected to make wise decisions about their health and future. Additionally, they can influence their families and communities and foster a culture of awareness and positive change.
