AWAKENING CHILDREN’S CREATIVE SPIRITS THROUGH BAMBOO CRAFTS

By: Made Kari, EBPP Bamboo Crafts team

I am Made Kari. After working with EBPP handling school building and infrastructure projects, then making bamboo bicycle frames, sadly in 2021, we’d to stop production due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, I am back with a new spirit to teach EBPP’s junior and senior high students to make various crafts from bamboo.

We’ve started by making balancing dragonflies, followed by wall clocks, furniture, and various other handicrafts. The benefit of this program is the ease of obtaining raw materials. Thanks to EBPP’s support, Ban Village communities have planted more than 80,000 bamboo plantlings of various species from 2007 to 2018, providing easy and sustainable access to craft-making materials.

Returning to teaching at EBPP is a special happiness for me. Making bamboo crafts is my passion. This activity not only teaches new skills to students, but also opens up promising economic opportunities for them and their communities.

After a few weeks of running, the enthusiasm of the students was truly extraordinary. They are very happy to learn and create with bamboo. I hope that in the future, all students and even the community who have studied can develop the potential of this environment to become a source of sustainable economic improvement.

Let's work together to make Ban Village a centre for bamboo crafts that inspires and improves welfare!
